Ok, So I just got back from BestBuy and FutureShop doing a little investigation on the new TV that I just purchased on Amazon. I bought the Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV and it is insanely cool.

THe Features on this bad boy are out of this world. If you after the latest in HDTV technology then this model will not let you down and it beats Sony’s price by $2000. I’ll just mention a few of the sweet features this TV has.

1) 1.5″ thick- YA that’s right it is about the same thickness as a deck of cards! The reason for this is because this new generation uses LED’s instead of LCD or Plasma so there is no need for light bulbs in this one.

2) Super COOL- The Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV not only looks cool but it actually STAYS cool. Because it doesn’t use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (those are light bulbs for us simple folk) that means that it doesn’t heat up at all.

3) 240 hz refresh rate- Most TV’s refresh in the 60hz-120 hz range so the images get blurred more easily. With 240 hz fast motion images appear ridiculously clear.

4) Energy Efficient- The Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV is almost 40% more energy efficient than standard LCD and Plasma HDTV’s. This is again due to the revolutionary LED technology that does not use light bulbs.

5) Do you like Games?- This TV features game mode which enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response. Basically it makes your games even better to play than they already are.

When you are in the market for a new television, resolution should be one of factors you should consider. If you have the money, perhaps you should consider buying an LCD 1080p HDTV.

What is the big deal about an LCD 1080p HDTV? Well for starters, that is about 1,920×1,080 pixels which many consider as the Holy Grail of HDTV resolution. This is because it is the best that television companies have been able to come up with which is an improvement from the 720p.

The 1080p is an improvement from the 1080i. The big difference is that images are no longer in an interlaced format but rather sequentially in a single pass making it clearer for people to see the images on the screen.

Keep in mind that when you do buy an LCD 1080p HDTV, its price will be much higher than an EDTV or enhanced definition TV screen because it costs more to make. But does it really make a difference? A lot of experts in the industry say no.

This is because unless you are in the business of video editing or extreme graphic use, such features are not needed when you turn on the television to watch your favorite show or movie. Second, people in Hollywood have no intentions of to produce shows using the 1080p format.

But then again, there is hope because in the battle between high definition and blu ray, the second one is sometimes the format being used when a movie is released in DVD. For this to work, you need to buy an HD DVD player since the data is encoded in 1080p.

Such information will not make you jump for joy because most broadcasts are still done using the 1080i and 720p format and there are no plans to switch to 1080p due to bandwidth issues.

Will there come a time that this will happen if such issues are resolved? Probably not because it is not worth the time or the money. An independent test showed that they did not see any difference when they watched a show using this or the previous format so why even bother.

So why make it in the first place? Simply because there is competition between plasma and LCD televisions. Manufactures think that better pixel quality equals more sales but it is just one selling point and not the big picture when the consumer decides to go out and buy a new television.

In the end, what we are trying to say is that you are better off with a television either a plasma or an LCD that is 720p. If you want to intensify your viewing pleasure, use the extra dollars you save to buy a better sound system.

But if you are not watching a movie, you will need a high definition signal through an antenna, cable or satellite because nothing will appear on screen without it. You should also get the proper accessories like the box and a satellite dish to get clear signals from the network.

The LCD 1080p HDTV is only good if you plan to use it for work. Otherwise, this is something you should forget because even if you play video games with it like Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, this is made in the 720p format so there is no point even if you can make adjustments in the user settings.

The difference between HDTV and regular TV is night and day, like the difference between black and white. HDTV is an amazing visual experience. Due to the upcoming 2009 Digital Conversion Law which is wiping out Analog TV Broadcasts, many people are now buying HDTV for the first time. The following are a few basic tips for anyone buying HDTV that will help you avoid major purchasing mistakes and save money Use this as a rough guide. These are my opinions only, which you can do with what you want.

HDTV Buying Tips:

1. Not all digital TV’s are HDTV sets. Make sure you are buying an HDTV set.

2.. The viewing screen size area of Wide screen HDTV set is smaller then the viewing screen of a regular TV. Widescreen is meant for a 16:9 Aspect Viewing Picture for HDTV broadcasts while Regular TV sets have 4:3 Aspect for non-HDTV broadcasts. As such the viewing area for say a 26″ wide screen HDTV is much smaller then a 26″ regular TV set, so if you want the equivilent viewing area, you should buy something like a 32″ Wide screen HDTV. The bottom line is, if you are buying a wide screen hdtv, remember that to get the equivalent viewing area of your regular tv, your hdtv should be of a bigger size.

2. Do Not Purchase an HDTV that is not Wide screen. All HDTV broadcasts are in Widescreen which means a 16:9 aspect and will not be correctly viewed on a non-wide screen HDTV.

3. Try to buy an HDTV with 1080 Resolution instead of 720. 1080 Gives you a Better Picture.

4. Anyone using or planning to use Cable or Satellite TV, can save money buying an HD Readyset instead of an HD set with a built in HD Tuner. This simply means, that with your HD ready TV, you will receive your HDTV broadcasts direct from the receiving equipment of your Cable and Satellite Service.

5. You Need actual HD service from your Cable or Satellite Company in order to actually watch HDTV. The price is relatively low. If you do not pay for this service, then your picture is not HDTV.

6. If you get a DVR or TIVO make sure it is an HD DVR or HD TIVO or you will not see what you recorded in HD. You need an HDTV to watch HD playback from an HD DVR or HD Tivo.

7. I would buy an extended warranty just for the security of knowing that if anything went wrong with your HDTV set, you at least have the security of knowing that you’ll be able to fix it or repair it right away. For me, the cost of what I paid, was worth the security of knowing I’d have my HDTV for the years to come.

8. If you go to a chain store or department store, many of the pictures you may be seeing on the TV sets on display, may not be actual HDTV broadcasts. I would call the store in advance or go to a store that specializes in HDTV where you know you will be seeing HDTV broadcasts.

9. On the whole, you will be getting better expertise from a salesperson from a store specializing in HDTV then a chain store. This is not to say, that there aren’t knowledgeable salespeople at chain stores but the chances are you will find more knowledgeable ones who do this for a career. I would always ask for a salesperson who had been with the store the longest.

10. If you have a Home Theater System, the sound of an HDTV set from its built in speakers is not important. You will actually be receiving your sound through your Home Theater System from your Cable or Satellite TV provider.

11. If you have the money, I personally would recommend you spending the $50 or more dollars to buy quality component cables rather then use the free component cables supplied by your cable or satellite company to connect your HDTV as you’ll probably get a better picture.
